Waiting on Evri...

Wednesday, January 31, 2024

I was hoping for a lorry Lego kit I managed to pick up for a fiver on eBay to arrive today, but Evri let me down. So my Lego version of Guy N Smith at his computer and cover for Trucker and Truckers 2 will have to wait until at least tomorrow. What did I do instead? Well, I did a Lego version of the Great Scribbler himself, an explosion scene from Doomflight and a Lego cover version of Crabs' Moon:

Guy N Smith - Satan's Snowdrop (Lego Version)

Tuesday, January 30, 2024

My GNS Lego project for my upcoming Guy N Smith fanzine is progressing nicely. Working at these set-ups has helped take my mind off my health woes this last week or so, and I have a few more to keep me busy. My novel, Cold Comfort, is also progressing nicely and is ahead of schedule. Expect the latter to be published at the end of March 2024 and the former to be available by the close of June... In the meantime, here is my completed Lego version of Guy's Satan's Snowdrop:

The next movie in my personal collection of folk horror films is the classic 70s flick - Blood on Satan's Claw. My DVD copy has this nice info leaflet enclosed with it: #folkhorror

A Change of Meds

Sunday, January 28, 2024

Time for another health update. I am now on sick leave from work, enforced by my consultant, who said, "Health is more important than work", which, when it comes to the crunch, it surely is. Anyway, it has now been nine days since my last dosage of Methotrexate, which strangely stopped working for me this past month or so. I now have to have a flu and covid jab and await a home visit from "the Biologics Team", who will give me my first of forever-more fortnightly injections of the expensive and, apparently, miracle drug Dupilumab. After being instructed in its storage and use, future injections will be administered by myself (or, more probably, my wife, lol). If this medication is as fantastic as all the consultants and nurses say it is, the future looks 🌞...

Ramshorn Water Snails Nano Tank

I recently set up a nano rams-horn snail aquarium from an old jar, a couple of moss balls and some green sea glass I have gathered over the years during my numerous beachcombs. The snails seem to have settled in well, and they have been feeding off the debris among the old moss, and the tank should become a self-care environment. They self-regulate their egg-laying depending on how well they are dining, so it should be easy to tell whether I need to add a few flakes of fish food to the jar...

Guy N Smith - The Wood Book Cover (Lego Version)

 Friday, January 27, 2024

Today's Lego diorama attempt. Tried a few different heads and had to make do, as Lego just doesn't get that pulp horror look right, lol.

This was one of my more difficult book covers to recreate using lego:

Stehen King - Salem's Lot (Lego Version)

Sunday, 21 January, 2024

My lego version of the scariest scene ever filmed - the floating vampire boy in his pyjamas scratching at the bedroom window in Salem's Lot. Scroll down through the photos to see how I achieved the effect of floating and how I managed to leave enough light through the side of the piece to give the boy an ethereal glow.

Also, to add to the effect, click play on the media below:

Bjork ~ The Juniper Tree

Wednesday, 17 January 2024

It's time to start organising my personal film, TV and book library on my favourite genre, folk horror. I'll start with this beauty of a film. It stars the one and only Bjork and is based on the classic Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale. The BFI Blu-ray release is pristine and is loaded with extras, including some rare old folk horror shorts. The first pressings also hit the shelves with an informative guide to the film and its restoration.
