Autobiography (2b)

Following on from my Autobiography (2a), here is another pic of a baby axolotl I hatched a few years back. Why are these images of axolots featuring in my Autobiography series? Well, it goes back to when I inherited an old wildlife book of strange animals. Unfortunately, I no longer have that book to share a picture of it, but one of the animals featured was of a leucistic axolotl. The image of this animal really piqued my interest and I could scarcely believe that such a weird-looking animal could actually exist. Back in those days, there was no internet and I could find no further reference to such a thing as an axolotl throughout the entirety of my childhood. I believe that this was the first instance in my life that I felt the sense that there was something fascinating in the world that my mind had trouble grasping, and set up my interest in seeking out the extraordinary in the world.

To be continued...

Autobiography (2a)

Image 2a from a project I am working on titled Autobiography. This image evidences the theme of this autobiography - current day visual reminders of memories of my childhood. This particular image is of a young axolotl I raised a few years back. I will explain why this image is important in my autobiography when I post Image 2b. Watch this space...

Autobiography - Pic 1

I've looked after these bears since I was a young 'un. At the moment they are sitting on a bookshelf near my writing desk.

55 years ago, the larger bear (Big Ted) was sat on my Nanna's settee, comforting yours truly.

The smaller of the two bears (Little Ted) was brought home by my grandfather, who worked at British Rail - the furry fella having been abandoned at his station's Lost and Found.

I am quite happy with this image of the two bears and am minded to start a new foto-project exploring the remains of my childhood. Watch this space, as they say...
