An Afternoon venture into the Garden

Sunday, February 11, 2024

It was mild enough for me to go out into the garden today and have a little fire in the chimenea. It was lovely to see that Spring is finally starting to claw its way into 2024 :)

Hagstone

My Yew Cutting, taken from this magnificent tree down the Gower Peninsula, was looking nice and healthy:

Another bonsai in the making - this time a Cherry Tree

It was nice to see that the Sycamore, grown from a trio of seeds I collected a trio of Sycamore from the sacred Chalice Well Gardens, the sacred in Glastonbury:

An old pic of the three Sycamore Seeds collected from Glastonbury

These three seeds have now formed a rather cool 'single' entity whose contortions continue to amaze :)

Guy N Smith - Crabs Omnibus

I don't think I've mentioned this addition to my Guy N Smith archive yet. It's probably the highlight of my collection too - the handwritten Manuscript, typescript and final printed book of Crabs Omnibus, all signed by the author.

Garth Marenghi - Incarcerat Night Out

 Friday, February 09, 2024

The Garth Marenghi Incarcerat Tour Poster

It's been a while, but I dragged myself out of the house this evening. I'm so glad I did, as Garth Marenghi was on top form for his Incarcerat show at The Grand Theatre. As well as his usual reading from his new novel and his Q&As from the audience, he also did a little directing as a couple of people were encouraged onto the stage to audition for a possible new movie of one of his classic tales. I haven't laughed so much in ages. To top the evening off, I also picked up a free large Garth Marenghi tour poster, which I plan on framing, and got the great man himself to sign the paperback copy of his novel for me :)

My Signalman diorama is slowly improving:

"Halloa! Below there!"

Tuesday, February 06, 2024

Still no contact from the biologic team so I'm gonna ring the hospital tomorrow. If its going to take much longer I may need to go back on the Methotrexate as my condition is worsening every day. To take my mind off things, I'm continuing work on my Lego Dickens' Story 'The Signalman'. The train hasn't shown up yet but I've worked a bit on Signal House and landscape. The signal house may change but I'm happy with how things are progressing with the diorama... "Halloa! Below there!"

Lego Project 2 - Ghost Stories for Christmas

 Monday, February 05, 2024

As I have already noted, my Lego Guy N Smith dioramas have now reached an end. But I'm still having fun with the hobby. It's a very meditative activity and continues to really help in taking my mind off my illness as I await the start of my fortnightly jabs. And so I have given myself a second Lego challenge, which is: Scenes from BBC2's Ghost Stories for Christmas. Despite waiting for a crucial part of my next diorama, I have already made a start with its construction:

Photography on the Lego section of my Gun N Smith fanzine is now complete, with 25 of his books receiving a Lego makeover. These are:

Werewolf by Moonlight
The Sucking Pit
The Slime Beast
Night of the Crabs
The Truckers 1 & 2
Thirst
Satan's Snowdrop
Caracal
Doomflight
Wolfcurse
The Pluto Pact
Crabs’ Moon
The Walking Dead
Throwback
The Wood
Alligators
The Camp
The Black Fedora
The Dark One (Alternative Cover)
The Pony Riders
Deadbeat
The Cadaver
Nightspawn (Alternative Cover)
The Reaper

Lookout for your copy of the book during Summer 2024. Though, as I'm writing this, I've just thought of another interesting chapter that might well be interesting to include in the zine. This would throw the publication date back a little though. Hmmmmm..?

Guy N Smith - Throwback, Thirst & Wolfcurse (Lego Cover Versions)

Saturday, February 03, 2024

Working on these Lego versions of Guy N Smith bookcovers is proving to be far more fun than grafing on the final draft of Cold Comfort. Luckily for my next novel, I should finish these GNS covers over the weekend. Then it's back to wordsmith...

Guy N Smith - The Trucker & Truckers 2 (Lego Cover Versions)

Friday, February 02, 2024

Well, Evri finally delivered by Lego lorry. Several happy hours later I had added two new Lego book reproductions for my upcoming new zine The Imaginarium, the first issue of which will concentrate on Guy N Smith:

Sorting ut My Folk Horror Shelf

A few more folk horror DVDs I've dug out from the attic to add to my f.h. shelf. Pyewacket is a great tale of a teenage girl who regrets practising magic in the woods. Puffball is a strange tale of pregnancy by no other than Nic Roeg himself. And The Shout is about, well, a shout that kills.

Waiting on Evri...

Wednesday, January 31, 2024

I was hoping for a lorry Lego kit I managed to pick up for a fiver on eBay to arrive today, but Evri let me down. So my Lego version of Guy N Smith at his computer and cover for Trucker and Truckers 2 will have to wait until at least tomorrow. What did I do instead? Well, I did a Lego version of the Great Scribbler himself, an explosion scene from Doomflight and a Lego cover version of Crabs' Moon:

Guy N Smith - Satan's Snowdrop (Lego Version)

Tuesday, January 30, 2024

My GNS Lego project for my upcoming Guy N Smith fanzine is progressing nicely. Working at these set-ups has helped take my mind off my health woes this last week or so, and I have a few more to keep me busy. My novel, Cold Comfort, is also progressing nicely and is ahead of schedule. Expect the latter to be published at the end of March 2024 and the former to be available by the close of June... In the meantime, here is my completed Lego version of Guy's Satan's Snowdrop:

Blood on Satan's Claw

 Monday, January 29, 2024

The next movie in my personal collection of folk horror films is the classic 70s flick - Blood on Satan's Claw. My DVD copy has this nice info leaflet enclosed with it: #folkhorror
